Bayern Munich could renew their interest in signing Christopher Nkunku from Chelsea before the transfer deadline.

The German champions have been frustrated in a pursuit of Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade, with the two clubs unable to reach an agreement on a fee.

Vincent Kompany’s side are contemplating a fresh approach for the Germany international but are also assessing alternative options.

Bayern are understood to be considering turning their attention to Nkunku, who will leave Chelsea this summer after a frustrating period.

The France international started just nine times in the Premier League last season and has been pushed further down the pecking order after the summer arrivals of Liam Delap and Joao Pedro.

Bayern held exploratory talks with Chelsea over a deal in January and Sky Germany are reporting that Nkunku is back on their radar.

The 27-year-old is keen on the move and a return to the Bundesliga, where he excelled at RB Leipzig prior to his transfer to Chelsea.

Nkunku scored 70 goals in 172 games for Leipzig and won both the Bundesliga’s Player of the Year and top-scorer awards during his time with the club.

Leipzig have enquired into his availability but are not prepared to accept Nkunku as part of a package for Chelsea target Xavi Simons. The German side are only interested in a loan deal at this stage, with both Chelsea and Nkunku preferring a permanent exit.
