After Kim Min-jae was heavily linked with a move away from Bayern Munich earlier this summer, speculation over the centre-back’s future has quieted a bit in recent weeks.
When asked on Tuesday if Min-jae could still leave the club before the transfer window closes, Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund said it isn’t the plan, but refused to rule it out entirely.
“You can never rule anything out 100 percent in football, but it’s not our plan,” Freund said at a press conference.
“We’re very, very glad that he’s fit again. And we’ll see that on the pitch in the coming weeks.”
Min-jae may have lost his starting spot for now, with Jonathan Tah and Dayot Upamecano ahead of him, but that could potentially change.
“We had this last season with Leon Goretzka, he conducted himself in completely the right way, got back into the side and was very important for us," said Bayern coach Vincent Kompany, who was sitting alongside Freund.
"Nobody can allow themselves to do one step less. Min-jae has trained very well and did very well when he came on on Friday.”
