According to Florian Plettenberg, Bayer Leverkusen are looking to prize Paul Wanner away from Bayern Munich in the summer.
The 18-year-old is currently on loan at Heidenheim, where he has impressed on a regular basis, quickly becoming touted as one of the most exciting young players in Europe.
Wanner’s scintillating form for Frank Schmidt’s side has also seen him receive a maiden call-up to the German national side.
Despite this, the Bayern Academy product has elected to turn down the chance to represent Die Nationalmannschaft, as the option to represent Austria—the country of his birth—is still being considered.
Nevertheless, the 18-year-old could be set to make another key decision regarding his career.
It is understood that Wanner wants to become a regular starter for a top Bundesliga side next season, and as it stands, he remains unconvinced that this could be a possibility at Der Rekordmeister.
Therefore, as stated in the report, a move to Die Werkiself at the end of the campaign has emerged as a serious option for Wanner.
Regardless, this move would be highly dependent on whether Florian Wirtz departs the BayArena in the summer, as Leverkusen would view Wanner as the German international’s ideal replacement.
