Bayer Leverkusen agree to sign Claudio Echeverri on loan from Manchester City | OneFootball

Bayer Leverkusen have agreed a deal to sign Argentine attacking midfielder Claudio Echeverri on loan from Manchester City, according to Sky Germany.

The 19-year-old, hailed as one of South America’s brightest young talents, will join the German side on a season-long loan deal without an option to buy.

Echeverri signed for Manchester City from River Plate in January 2024 for a fee of around €14.5 million.

He spent the following year on loan at River Plate, where he continued his rise with impressive performances in Argentina’s top flight.

Following his eventual arrival at Manchester City in early 2025, Echeverri made his debut toward the end of the 2024-25 Premier League season and was a part of City’s squad for the Club World Cup.

He netted his first goal for the club in a 6-0 thrashing of Al-Ain in June, but has not featured since then due to an ankle injury.

Given the competition for places at the Etihad Stadium, City have decided to loan out Echeverri for the upcoming season, which he will now spend at the Bay Arena.

Dortmund were previously in the driving seat to land Echeverri on a short-term basis before Leverkusen pulled off a late hijack.

Following the departure of Florian Wirtz to Liverpool, Die Schwarzroten need some added creativity as they prepare for their first Bundesliga campaign under Erik ten Hag.

Leverkusen made light work of lower league side Großaspach last time out to book their place in the second round of this year’s DFB-Pokal.

They play their league opener against Hoffenheim on Saturday.
