Lazio manager Marco Baroni offered positive medical updates on Alessio Romagnoli who left the pitch after the interval against Bologna.

Concerning Substitution

The former Milan captain started at the back alongside Mario Gila in Sunday’s Serie A contest, but was nowhere to be seen after the half-time break. This may have turned out to be a blessing in disguise for the team, as his replacement Samuel Gigot broke the deadlock in the encounter that ended 3-0 in favor of the Biancocelesti, but the fans were still concerned about Romagnoli.

Nevertheless, Baroni reassured that the defender is in good condition, but was taken off as a precautionary measure after feeling a stiffness in his muscle. The 62-year-old also had comforting news about club captain Mattia Zaccagni in his post-match interview (via La Lazio Siamo Noi).

Zaccagni took a blow to the quadriceps. [Boulaye] Dia is fine, I must say that everything has passed [the malaria scare]. Romagnoli took a hard hit on the calf. At halftime, he felt some stiffness, so I decided not to risk him. Nuno [Tavares] has a slight problem, he won’t be out for many games.

Unconventional Defensive Strategy

The former Lecce and Hellas Verona manager also explained his philosophy on defending. He simply believes that the best way to defend is venturing forward.

We train to attack the opposition. I do little defensive work in training because I believe that you defend by attacking. Of course, the extra midfielder allows us to hold more ball possession but the players must be located high on the pitch. We are not a team that sits deep in our own areas.
