Barcelona face a crucial challenge today as the club attempts to register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor in La Liga. Despite missing the official deadline, Barcelona are still optimistic about resolving the situation.

Now, according to reports from AS, the club plans to argue that the delay was caused by banking issues, which prevented them from completing the necessary payments on time.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has one final opportunity to register the two players before the start of the Copa del Rey match against Barbastro.

The club aims to convince La Liga to reinstate the 1:1 rule, which would allow them to sign players as normal.

Barcelona’s argument to support the case

To support their case, Barcelona intend to show that the funds from the sale of VIP seats at Camp Nou, which are worth between €100 million and €120 million, have already been deposited into the club’s account.

The club claims that, by December 31, the money was secured but could not be transferred to the bank due to banking procedures.

Since the window closed on December 31, and banks do not process transactions from the afternoon of the 31st until the 2nd of January, Barcelona could not make the deposit until January 3. This delay, according to the club, was the sole reason they missed the deadline.

La Liga holds the key

If La Liga and the Federation continue to block the registration of the players, Barcelona are prepared to take legal action.

The club has already filed for precautionary measures, arguing that the registration rule should not apply in this case due to “force majeure.”

Barcelona assert that, despite securing the sale of the VIP seats and receiving the €120 million from the buyer, they were unable to complete the necessary procedures because the timing coincided with the end of the year.

Laporta may address the situation today

In a bid to clarify the situation, Barcelona may have Joan Laporta address the matter publicly before Hansi Flick’s press conference.

This is especially urgent as Barcelona are set to debut in the Copa del Rey against Barbastro the following day.

If the registration issue is not resolved, it could lead to significant consequences for the club.

In such a scenario, Barcelona might be forced to compensate Olmo for his full contract, which runs until 2030, and potentially offer him a free transfer.
