Barcelona youngster reflects on the dream of winning his first title – ‘Would be great to win the first one’ | OneFootball

Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi has shared his memories of the 2023 Spanish Super Cup final, where Barcelona triumphed over Real Madrid.

Reflecting on the match, Cubarsi recalled watching the game with his family at his grandparents’ house. He was clearly proud of his team’s performance, noting how Barcelona dominated the match, outplaying their rivals in every way.

“I remember watching it at my grandparents’ house, with my family. They played so well, they were superior to Real Madrid and won very clearly,” he said as quoted by MARCA.

According to him, the game was one of his personal favourites, not only because of the opponent but also because of how well his team performed on the day.

“It’s one of the games I’ve enjoyed the most, because of the opponent and how we played. The team gave 100%.”

Chance of winning his first trophy

Although he was not part of the squad that day, Cubarsi is now in the heart of Barcelona’s defensive line. Having made his debut just over a year ago, the young centre-back has quickly become a key figure for the team.

However, despite his growing influence and contributions, he has yet to secure a major title with the club.

Cubarsi expressed his desire to win his first trophy with Barcelona, highlighting how special it would be to claim a title, particularly the Super Cup, as his first.

“It would be great to win the first one. I hope there will be many more, but you always have to start with one and it would be nice if it was the Super Cup,” he said.

Looking ahead, Cubarsi is aware of the challenges that lie ahead, especially with the semi-final of the competition fast approaching.

Barcelona will face a tough test against Ernesto Valverde’s Athletic Club, a team known for their resilience and competitive spirit. Cubarsi knows the match will not be easy and stresses the importance of giving their best performance to ensure a victory.

“Athletic is always a difficult match, we have to be at our best,” he concluded.
