As confirmed a while back, Spain left out Barcelona youngster Pau Cubarsi from the squad for their UEFA Nations League fixture against Denmark later tonight.
The 17-year-old was roped in earlier this week as a replacement for the injured Pau Torres by manager Luis de la Fuente, even though he was unwell on the day of his call-up.
However, he will not be involved in tonight’s game against Denmark after he and Bryan Zaragoza were omitted from the squad list by La Roja.
Now, Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona welcomed with great satisfaction the non-inclusion of Cubarsi in the final call-up for the Spanish national team’s match against Denmark.
At the Catalan club, there was significant concern about De la Fuente deciding to include the 17-year-old prodigy in the starting XI or even have him on the bench with the possibility of coming on later.

It was because Cubarsi had been suffering from a severe illness, with vomiting and general malaise, which had worsened on Tuesday night into Wednesday, just before De la Fuente urgently called him up.
Given this physical situation, which even forced him not to train on Wednesday with Barça after a very bad night with little sleep, there was great concern at the club because if he played today the risk of injury was significant.
Faced with this scenario, Barça rushed to speak with the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to warn them of the risks of playing Cubarsi.
Dr. Ricard Pruna, the head of Barça’s medical department, discussed the starlet’s situation with Dr. Claudio Vazquez Colomo, the Spanish national team’s medical chief as Hansi Flick & co. were very concerned about the risk that Cubarsi could face.
Ultimately, De la Fuente decided to leave him out of the squad today and the call has been very well received at Barcelona given the risk that existed for Cubarsi.
