In his time at FC Barcelona, Pedri has firmly established himself as one of the best midfielders in the game.
Just 22 years old, the Spanish international is one of the most vital cogs in the scheme of things for club and country.
Naturally, Barcelona are very much desperate to secure his contract renewal, considering that his current deal stands to expire in a year and a half.
As reported earlier today, there is a lot of optimism that the agreement will be finalised soon, which would keep Pedri at the club until 2030 at the very least.
Building on that, journalist Santi Ovalle reports that Barcelona intend to make Pedri the leader of their project.
The 22-year-old was already handed a captaincy role this season as he was named one of the five skippers alongside Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Ronald Araujo, Frenkie de Jong, and Raphinha.

Barça see Pedri as a vital cog for the present and the future and as such intend to make him the leader of their project, which is why they are pushing for his contract extension as a priority.
The report from Santi Ovalle adds that Barcelona intend to renew the midfield superstar’s contract at least until 2030 and take it for granted that an agreement will be reached.
Talks were held between the Blaugrana and Pedri’s agent earlier this week, on the day of the UEFA Champions League clash against Brest, and the feelings coming out of it were very positive.
One of the best in the business, Barça wish to ensure that Pedri stays and continues to flourish at the club while leading the team to new heights.
