After the holiday break, Barcelona are set to resume their campaign tomorrow as they take on Barbastro in the Copa Del Rey.

This will mark the Round of 32 of the tournament, with Barça desperately looking to return to form, following a disappointing stretch of performances in domestic competitions.

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick, though, will also keep one eye on next week’s encounter against Athletic Club, in the Spanish Super Cup.

The German, therefore, is likely to rest a few of his key players while he could offer chances to some of the lesser-used players in the team.

Szczesny to make his debut?

Now, according to Diario SPORT, Saturday’s encounter against Barbastro could serve Barcelona an ideal chance to hand a debut to Wojciech Szczesny.

It has been months since Barcelona signed Szczesny, who came back from retirement to join the club. But he is yet to feature even once for the Blaugrana.

Thanks to the performances of Inaki Pena, Szczesny has had to play second fiddle. Although the Pole has not complained about his lack of prominence, it is about time he gets some first-team action.

The Copa Del Rey clash against Barbastro, to that end, could serve as an ideal platform for Szczesny, as he looks to make his much-awaited return to the pitch.

The former Arsenal goalkeeper had retired from professional football in the summer of 2024, meaning this will be the first time he will appear on a pitch in more than six months.

Meanwhile, Szczesny won’t be the only player to appear against Barbastro tomorrow, with youngster Dani Rodriguez also making a push for a place in the starting lineup.
