Barcelona only had room to complete one big signing last summer and had two players of interest – Nico Williams and Dani Olmo. In the end, it was the latter who arrived for a combination of reasons, the most important being his desire to return home.
Since arriving at the club in the summer, the Spanish international has been in great form for Barcelona but his season was repeatedly riddled by injuries he could not seemingly break free from.
Owing to his lack of continuity, there were many doubts and a lot of external noise over whether or not his season could be deemed a success.
SPORT, however, relays that there is no such school of thought bearing any doubts in the club offices.
For Barcelona’s sporting director Deco, manager Hansi Flick, and the coaching staff, Olmo’s first season went beyond expectations with the player turning up in crucial moments of the campaign.
His form may have dipped towards the tail end of the season after his last injury, but he was always decisive and found the back of the net when the team direly needed moments of inspiration.

The board sees that Olmo has added to a department the club lacked last season and thus does not hesitate to call his debut campaign a resounding success. There may be room for improvement but he did play a pioneering part.
The 27-year-old racked up 12 goals, six assists and won three penalties for the club across all competitions, and was a bonafide starter when fit. His goals, in fact, directly fetched the team eight points in the tight La Liga race.
Olmo was a part of most of Barcelona’s most famous comeback wins, most notably the 4-3 win over Celta Vigo where he played a part in three goals. Notably, he was also named the man of the match on four occasions.
Come next season, Flick will look to help the attacking midfielder overcome his injury woes as he did with Pedri this season.
A fully-fit Olmo, after all, is a lethal weapon that can cut open even the world’s most impervious defences.
