It is always a difficult decision to make for any club, including FC Barcelona, when it comes to player sales. Not every individual at the club holds the same kind of impact or importance as another, but they are an asset for the club nonetheless. However, certain cases can come up for Barcelona that are simply not in their own hands.
When a player wishes to leave, the club is usually accommodating and does not wish to retain individuals who do not wish to stay themselves. Ultimately, this can create rifts between the involved parties at times, but the players themselves do not get forced by Barcelona to stay if they do not want to.
In the case of Uruguayan defender Ronald Araujo, the same philosophy will stay in place. With Serie A side Juventus reportedly being interested in his services and negotiations already having been started for a player that the Italian club seems to highlight as a main priority, there is something else that Barcelona also demands.
As highlighted by SPORT, the club wishes to hold a direct face-to-face summit with the player himself and wants the Uruguayan to openly confess if he wishes to stay or leave. For this reason, the report states that a meeting is planned for next week between the player and the club.
If he does admit to wanting to leave, Barça will listen to any offer from Juventus with an open mind. However, even the club itself has demands and the Catalan giants will not let Araujo go until and unless an adequate offer arrives that is in line with his actual valuation.
Such a formal offer will reportedly need to be somewhere in the range of €50-55 million for Barcelona to even consider it. Moreover, further variables will also need to be discussed and they will likely be much more adjustable compared to the fixed amount that Barça demands.
Moreover, for Juventus to even convince Barcelona to sell the €55 million-rated defender in January, the offer will need to be more substantial than what the Catalan club would be able to receive in the summer when more clubs can join in as well. Until and unless the offer is that significant, Barça would much rather keep him.
