Barcelona’s hunt to find a new stadium in Europe to host El Clasico in the wake of uncertainty over the readiness of Camp Nou has been well-documented.
Although Barça’s primary objective is to host the iconic game at a revamped Camp Nou in May, the club are also looking at other alternatives across Europe, as a contingency plan of sorts.
According to SPORT, the Barcelona board is set to host an ordinary meeting on January 28, where the venue of the upcoming El Clasico will be discussed for the first time.
It must be noted that Barcelona are not only looking for a venue for El Clasico but also for Barcelona’s following home game against Villarreal, which will be played on May 17/18.

At the same time, Barcelona are working with authorities to ensure they can continue using the Montjuic Stadium. They are also trying to push the construction works so that the first phase of Camp Nou works can be completed by May 11.
The report cites SPORT’s own readers, who appear to prefer the iconic Wembley Stadium as the ideal destination for El Clasico.
Wembley is followed by Espanyol’s RCDE Stadium and, interestingly, the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, which is the home stadium of Real Madrid’s cross-town rivals Atletico Madrid.
For now, though, it appears the Barcelona board has definitively ruled out the option of Montjuic hosting the upcoming El Clasico.
Real Madrid, meanwhile, are willing to respect Barcelona’s potential manoeuvre of shifting El Clasico to a different location, knowing playing at a neutral venue might ultimately benefit them.
