Robert Lewandowski won his third title with FC Barcelona on Sunday night as he helped the Blaugrana defeat Real Madrid 5-2 in the Spanish Super Cup final.
Having previously lifted the La Liga title and the Super Cup during his debut season in 2022/23, the 36-year-old Pole, who scored the second goal for Barça on the night, added another trophy to his kitty.
Speaking to the media after the match, Lewandowski could not hide his joy after securing his second Spanish Super Cup title with the club and praised the approach taken by the team against Real Madrid.
“Playing against Real Madrid is always a big game, especially in a final, but I think we had to play the same way we did in La Liga,” he said.
Keeping an eye on what comes next for the team, the veteran added: “We always want more, and in three days we have the next match. This season is a great challenge for everyone, and we need to prepare for the next game already.
“Today we can enjoy this, but tomorrow we need to focus on Betis (on Wednesday in the Copa del Rey).”
Lewandowski was seen speaking with Joan Laporta after the match and revealed what the Barcelona president said to him during the trophy celebrations.
“He congratulated us for playing very well in the first half and said we already have the first title of the year,” stated Lewandowski.

“We played really well in the first half. The last 30 minutes were more difficult because we had one fewer player, but with a 5-1 or 5-2 scoreline, it was not going to slip away from us, even after Szczesny’s sending-off.”
The Polish forward highlighted the team’s resurgence after a rough patch in November and December, saying:
“If I think about the matches we played, we performed well until December. Then there was a moment when we did not play well in La Liga. I think Christmas was a good time to reflect on what went wrong and what we could do better.
“We know there are many games left until the end of the season, and in the second half today, we showed we could play with experience even with ten men.”
Regarding his penalty against Thibaut Courtois and not using a stutter-step technique, Lewandowski said:
“I do not know, I scored, and that is what matters. Lamine’s equaliser at 1-1 was very important, but also the 3-1 goal. That was the moment we thought we were going to win, and we wanted to score more goals.”
