Barcelona teenage prodigy Lamine Yamal has been awarded the prestigious 2024 Kopa Trophy, recognising him as the world’s best footballer under 21 at the 2024 Ballon d’Or.

Yamal also finished eighth in the Ballon d’Or rankings – the youngest player to finish in the top ten. He is also the youngest winner of the Kopa Trophy.

The 17-year-old’s rapid ascent to football stardom has been incredible. He broke out last season under Xavi Hernandez, bagging five goals in 37 league appearances.

His excellent performances led Luis de la Fuente to call him up for the 2024 European Championship, where he made his name a household one with exhilarating performances from the right flank.

Yamal scored once and won the best young player award.

His technical prowess, vision and maturity beyond his years have made him a key player for Barcelona.

He has shattered numerous records, becoming the youngest player to score for the club in La Liga and the youngest to represent Spain at a major tournament.

Yamal beat off competition from Real Madrid rival Arda Guler, who also enjoyed a sensational Euro 2024 campaign after a stellar end to the 2023/24 season.

The Barca star also finished ahead of Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho, one of the few shining spots of Erik ten Hag’s torrid time as their manager.

The Argentine is a direct and rapid force down the flanks. He is gradually refining his game. Alongside Yamal, they could be two of the best wingers of the next generation.

Garnacho’s teammate, Kobbie Mainoo, was also a top contender. The Man United midfielder was another breakout star under Ten Hag and has developed into an England international.

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Joao Neves was also a strong contender after his tremendous breakout campaign with boyhood club Benfica.

The Portuguese starlet is the complete package in midfield. He moved to PSG over the summer and has continued his terrific performances for the Ligue 1 giants.
