A member of the goalkeeper ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has this week been tipped for a winter loan departure from the club.
The player in question? Marc-André ter Stegen.
Shot-stopper Ter Stegen is for his part of course sidelined at present. This comes after the German was forced to go under the knife to resolve a long-term back complaint.
Even prior to as much, though, the writing had long been on the wall for Ter Stegen when it comes to his place in Hansi Flick’s squad.
Following the summer arrival of Joan García, the 33-year-old is no longer considered a starting calibre player.
With Ter Stegen desperate to play his part for Germany at next year’s World Cup, something therefore must give.
And according to Diario AS, the most likely scenario at present involves the experienced goalkeeper being farmed out on loan in January.
Ter Stegen will not be cleared to take to the pitch in a competitive setting for several months from now, meaning his chances of wrestling back a starting berth at Barcelona before the turn of the year are slim to none.
The best solution for all parties, in turn, could well involve the former Borussia Monchengladbach man heading out on a short-term loan.
