Barcelona star in line to make season debut against Young Boys | OneFootball

A headline member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona could well be afforded his first appearance of the season in midweek.

The player in question? Frenkie de Jong.

Dutch international De Jong has for his part not taken to the pitch in Barcelona colours since all the way back in April, owing to an ankle injury.

The former Ajax standout was expected to be fit and available for the start of the new campaign, only for a lack of progress in his recovery to put an end to such hopes.

The last couple of weeks, though, have seen De Jong take significant steps towards a return to the pitch.

And, as alluded to above, if the latest word stemming from the media is anything to go by, then as much now appears closer than ever before.

As per a report from Barcelona insider Adrià Albets, the plan is for De Jong to take his place in Barcelona’s matchday squad to face Young Boys in the Champions League on Tuesday night:

‘The idea is for De Jong to be discharged on Tuesday morning and be included in the squad list to receive Young Boys.’
