Barcelona star earns himself a new nickname during Real Sociedad clash | OneFootball

A member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has on Sunday been crowned with a tongue-in-cheek new nickname.

The player in question? Gerard Martín.

Left-back Martín was for his part afforded his latest chance to impress from the off this evening.

With Alejandro Balde benched to secure some much-needed rest amid what has been a hectic recent run of fixtures for Barcelona, Martín stepped in in his place.

And to say that the 23-year-old has since gone on to justify his inclusion would be something of an understatement.

With the Blaugrana cruising towards another three-point haul, Martín has enjoyed a fine outing on both sides of the ball.

It is the Spaniard’s efforts going forward in particular, though, which have earned him the aforementioned new nickname in Catalunya’s capital.

Bombing up and down the left flank en route to notching his first-ever goal at senior level, Martín has been labelled:

‘The Catalan Roberto Carlos’
