One of the main priorities for FC Barcelona moving forward is the continuity of their brightest stars. La Blaugrana simply cannot afford to lose their best players given that their margin to reinvest is rather limited these days. As a result, the best course of action that Barcelona can take is to at least retain the players that they have.

However, not every player is able to get the same kind of prominence or involvement in the team. Given just how competitive and strong Hansi Flick’s squad already is, starting positions are few and far between. Moreover, with the level of play currently on display, it would not make sense for the Barcelona coach to make too many changes too often.

Despite this, there are players who are considered to be key players even when they are not regular starters. One particular player who best fits this description is Fermin Lopez, who remains an integral part of Hansi Flick’s plans despite not regularly starting for the team.

Knowing and valuing him accordingly, FC Barcelona have even taken a big step now regarding the €50 million-rated La Masia midfielder. According to the information provided by Jijantes, Fermin Lopez has now agreed a deal to renew his contract with La Blaugrana until 2029 and the official signing ceremony and announcement are reportedly set to take place today as well after the team’s scheduled training session.

His previous contract was set to expire in 2027, but it would appear that Barcelona believe that he is a long-term asset for them and he should be treated as such. This renewal, one that will reportedly finally be made official after months of negotiations, will surely also ward off any incoming interest in the player.

Previously, it was even reported that clubs like Arsenal, Liverpool, and Paris Saint-Germain were interested in his services. However, with the news of this latest contract extension, those clubs and any other interested ones will also likely be looking at other options now.

The 21-year-old Barcelona midfielder has shown sparks of his brilliance this season as well despite having been injured just recently. Against Bayern Munich for instance, the Spaniard was responsible for the first two goals that the Catalan giants ended up scoring and was there to remind everyone not to count him out.
