Barcelona presidential candidates – be it Joan Laporta or Victor Font – have always promised big signings in order to gain more favour ahead of elections.
With Barça expected to head for presidential elections once again in the near future, there won’t be any exceptions this time around as well.
As a matter of fact, MARCA reports that Julian Alvarez is now making waves inside the Barcelona circles.
His name has been underlined in red by some election hopefuls, seen as a powerful card to attract votes and convince the fans of a strong sporting plan heading into the next elections.
Barcelona are well aware that time is ticking with Robert Lewandowski. Although the club are more than willing to let the veteran forward lead the attack for yet another season, they are aware that he is in the final phase of his career.
Finding an able replacement who can not only score as many goals but also offer similar characteristics in the final third, thus becomes very important.

Julian Alvarez, fresh from a breakout season in La Liga with 27 goals to his name, seems to fit the bill perfectly.
With young talents like Lamine Yamal, Pedri, and Gavi already shaping the future, the missing piece could very well be a top-class forward to finish the chances they create.
However, acquiring the services of Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid will be far from easy.
The Argentine World Cup winner has become a key figure under Diego Simeone, who won’t be too keen on offloading the player anytime soon.
Even if he does, Atletico Madrid are likely to demand a fortune for Alvarez, possibly even breaching the €100 million mark.
It must also be noted that Barcelona haven’t had much luck signing from Atletico Madrid in the recent past, with players like Antoine Griezmann and Arda Turan struggling after moving to Catalonia.
