FC Barcelona have one of the best scouting networks in the world, and this network allows them to keep track of some of the best-emerging players in different parts of the world.
South America is one part of the globe where the Blaugranes have particularly focused their efforts in this regard.
As SPORT has noted, scouts from Barcelona will once again be active in this part of the world, as the U-20 South American Championship is going to kick off this Thursday in Venezuela, and the action in this competition will go on till February 16th.
This tournament is one of the major events attended by scouts from some of the biggest clubs in Europe looking for new talent. The Blaugranes will have one of their scouts who specializes in South American football attending this event.
The Catalans will be hoping this edition of the competition is as fruitful for them as the last one was, where they set their sights on Vitor Roque, who ended up winning the Championship in 2023.
This is already the second major tournament of 2025 to which Barcelona have sent a scout, as they also had one of their agents covering the Sao Paulo Junior Football Cup for the last three weeks.
Some of the names that are expected to star in this upcoming competition have already been tied by top European clubs. Echeverri has already been signed by Manchester City from River Plate, while Julio Soler is also playing with Bournemouth. Kendry Paez has been scooped up by Chelsea, while Gabriel Moscardo has been playing on loan at Stade Reims after having signed for PSG.
Another high-profile name who will be playing in this competition but who has not yet signed for a European side is the River Plate striker Franco Mastantuono, for whom Real Madrid and Manchester City are fighting.
However, Barcelona’s return to the 1:1 status can also make them contenders for his signing. , the Argentine pearl who has been shining in the Mallorca youth system.
