It is known that Barcelona have been actively searching for ways to strengthen their goalkeeping department, and a recent update from Fichajes has revealed that one of the names that recently surfaced in their discussions was Real Madrid’s Andriy Lunin.

The Ukrainian shot-stopper, currently serving as a backup at Real Madrid, was considered as a potential option by the Catalan club.

According to reports, Barcelona president Joan Laporta made inquiries about Lunin’s situation during a meeting with Jorge Mendes, who represents several high-profile players.

This conversation also included discussions about Lamine Yamal’s future. However, any hopes of securing Lunin’s services were quickly dismissed as Real Madrid made their stance clear.

Will not sell to Barcelona

Despite Lunin recently extending his contract with Los Blancos until 2030, there was an understanding that the club would listen to offers if the player decided to leave.

However, sources close to the situation indicate that Real Madrid have no intention of facilitating a move to their biggest rivals under any circumstances.

Mendes conveyed to Laporta that Lunin is not considering an exit at this stage, as he is focused on competing at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Barcelona not surprised

Barcelona’s board was not surprised by this response, as negotiating with Real Madrid for a key player has always been an unlikely scenario.

Moreover, Lunin has proven his capabilities in recent performances and is widely regarded as the long-term successor to Thibaut Courtois.

While Courtois, now 32, remains under contract until 2026, Real Madrid are confident that Lunin will play an important role in their future.

For now, the Ukrainian goalkeeper will have to remain patient while Courtois retains his starting position.

As for Barcelona, their search for a reliable option between the posts will have to continue elsewhere, as a move for Lunin is simply not a realistic possibility.
