Speaking at a public appearance today, FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta expressed cautious optimism about the team’s chances of winning the historic treble this season.
The Blaugrana are going through an excellent moment and are well within a shot of winning La Liga, Copa del Rey and the UEFA Champions League in Hansi Flick’s first season in charge.
While having confidence in the side, Laporta insisted that they must remain grounded as none of their main objectives of the season have been achieved yet.
“We are ambitious, but we have to keep our feet on the ground,” said Laporta, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.
We haven’t won anything yet and we have to work hard to achieve it, both in the final of the Copa del Rey and in the league, because there are five games left, all very tough and complex, head to head, because we all have a lot at stake.”
When repeatedly pressed by reporters eager for triumphant declarations amid growing belief in a treble, Laporta kept his tone measured, saying:
“What we Barça fans have to do is have confidence in our coach, in the players. Following Hansi Flick’s guidelines, with the talent and enthusiasm of the players, there are chances.”
On the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid later this week, he remarked: “A final is very exciting, it’s a toss-up, and anything can happen. But we are confident, because we are in good shape.
“We are doing well in the league, in the Champions League semi-finals and in the final of the Copa del Rey.”

Continuing, he added: “Frankly we are having a very good season, but we have not yet achieved any of the objectives we were aiming for, apart from the Super Cup.”
Laporta reiterated that the team’s form and consistency deserve recognition, stating: “We are playing very well, we are a very consistent team. I have to thank all the players for what they are making us enjoy.
“Above all, to a coach who is doing a masterful job. What we have to have is the necessary prudence and at the same time the enthusiasm and excitement that is required for these events.”
The Barcelona president made it clear that there will be no premature celebrations even before the matter is settled on the pitch.
“We haven’t achieved our objectives and we’re going to do everything we can to reach them,” noted Laporta.
“In the league, we’re in the first place, but there’s Madrid and even Atletico Madrid with chances, and in the UCL semi-finals, we’re going to face a great team like Inter and anything can happen.”
Still, Laporta could not hide his delight at the mood among fans, saying: “The fans are enthusiastic, let’s keep it that way, it’s the way to live it. I encourage all the Cules to live intensely this end of the season.
“People are in high spirits and this is very nice. People react with enthusiasm, they cheer you on. That’s very nice and important for us.”
