FC Barcelona had a brilliant 2024/25 season under Hansi Flick. The German coach rejuvenated the squad, got them playing an exciting brand of football, and led them to the La Liga and Copa del Rey titles while also reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League.

One of Hansi Flick’s biggest successes last season was bringing the best out of the players in the squad. He transformed the likes of Raphinha, Frenkie de Jong, Ferran Torres, and Eric Garcia, among others, and made them indispensable to his plans.

Ferran, in particular, was a very interesting evolution. The Spaniard wasn’t necessarily a starter, often coming off the bench for Robert Lewandowski, but he almost always delivered. Towards the end of the season, when the Pole was injured, the Spaniard also impressed as a starter.

Understandably, after the season that he just had, there is a lot of interest in Ferran. Now, as per Mundo Deportivo, despite considering the Spaniard key to their plans and the club’s desire to retain him, Barcelona have postponed contract renewal talks until the season begins.

Ferran has a contract with Barcelona until 2027, and the intention for both parties is to continue with each other. However, due to the club’s financial situation, negotiations over a new contract have been kicked down the road.

Ferran can push ahead this season

Judging by how last season played out, it will come as no surprise to see Hansi Flick trust Ferran Torres as a starter increasingly in the 2025/26 campaign. Robert Lewandowski is getting on in age and might not have the legs to start every three days over the course of the season.

The upcoming season gives Ferran a chance to push ahead and further establish himself as indispensable to Flick’s plans. He will know that Barcelona might look for a new striker next summer should Lewandowski leave and will be keen to put his hand up and make that position his own in the coming months.
