Currently, FC Barcelona are focusing all their energies on ensuring that they end the 2023-24 financial year with a surplus that will allow them to return to the 1:1 rule. Returning to this status is essential for the Catalans if they want to bring in new players this summer.
Once the Blaugranes are able to meet this objective, they can start focusing on the different targets they have in mind to strengthen their team. One of these players whom Barcelona will be looking to sign this summer is the Bayer Leverkusen fullback, Jeremie Frimpong.
The Dutch international has a release clause of €40 million, and as things stand, Barcelona are unable to pay such a sum of money for him. However, things will be different from July 1st, when they will hopefully return to the 1:1 rule, and SPORT has highlighted the strategy that the Catalans will be pursuing to get the wing-back.
The report claims that Barcelona are going to offer €30 million fixed and another €5 million in variables to the Germans, and believe that the Bundesliga champions will be open to negotiating for Frimpong.
Furthermore, the Blaugranes can also make Ansu Fati, who is returning to the club after a loan in the Premier League with Brighton and Hove Albion, a part of this deal. However, Fati does not look too convinced to leave on another loan without having the opportunity to impress the new Barcelona coach, Hansi Flick, in the pre-season.
Barcelona will have to do a lot of work to be able to sign the Dutchman, but believe that getting him will significantly improve their team as Frimpong can play in any position on the right wing, and would fit in well with Flick’s style of play.
