Barcelona’s transfer window could still have a twist, with MARCA revealing that the club is open to listening to offers for Fermin Lopez, even though the La Masia graduate has been clear in both his words and actions that he does not want to leave.

It is to be noted that after the Joan Gamper Trophy and a standout display against Como, where he scored twice, Fermin insisted, “I want to stay here. The truth is, it’s my dream. I’ll stay. Let the fans rest easy.”

Yet, Barcelona’s financial reality continues to complicate matters. The club remain under the pressure of La Liga’s Financial Fair Play rules, and sporting director Deco is still waiting for approval on the VIP boxes at the Spotify Camp Nou to help boost revenue.

Until then, Barça cannot operate under the 1:1 rule, leaving them with little room to manoeuvre in the market.

Selling a valuable squad member like Fermin would ease those restrictions, even if it goes against the player’s wishes.

Limited space in the squad

Apart from finances, sporting reasons are also at play. Barcelona’s midfield is overcrowded, and manager Hansi Flick has tough decisions to make.

Fermin can play both as a central midfielder and as a left winger, but in both areas, he faces heavy competition. In midfield, he competes with Dani Olmo and Ferran Torres, while on the left flank, he must contend with Raphinha and Marcus Rashford.

With so many options, Flick may struggle to give Fermin the minutes he deserves.

Despite his determination to stay, recent team selections suggest his position is under threat. Against Mallorca, he started brightly, but was substituted at half-time.

With just two games left before the transfer window shuts, the next fixture against Levante could be telling. If Fermin remains sidelined, the pressure to accept an offer may grow.

For now, the situation remains uncertain, as Barcelona’s financial issues, coupled with the depth of talent in their midfield, leave Fermin’s future hanging in the balance.
