Barcelona on alert after Ronald Araujo suffers serious-looking injury | OneFootball

Barcelona have had rotten luck with injuries over the last 12 months, and incredibly, that has continued in recent weeks – despite the fact that they have played no matches since the end of May. On Friday, Pedri suffered a worrying knee injury whilst playing for Spain, and now a similar fate has befallen Ronald Araujo.

During the first half of Uruguay’s Copa America quarter-final clash against Brazil, Araujo appeared to injure his hamstring while stretching to block a cross. He was immediately substituted, and left the pitch in Las Vegas looking emotional.

As per MD, Uruguay manager Marcelo Bielsa appeared to confirm that it is a muscular injury for Araujo, and that medical examinations will be carried out in the next 24 hours to determine how serious it is. He also blamed the injury on the vast number of matches that the defender has played since August.

“I think Ronald Araujo’s is a muscle injury that will be confirmed tomorrow when they do the tests.

“It is an option that cannot be ignored. It is important to note that players accumulate between 40 and 50 games during the European season, which started in August and ended in June. Then comes this competition, where you’re playing twice a week.”

Barcelona will be hoping that Araujo’s injury is not as serious as first feared. However, there is now a good chance that he misses most, if not all, of pre-season, while it could have an impact on whether or not he is sold this summer.
