According to SPORT, Barcelona find themselves at a critical juncture regarding their stadium plans, with no intention of considering options beyond returning to the Spotify Camp Nou or extending their stay at the Montjuïc Stadium.

The decision, however, must be made sooner rather than later, as recent developments in the renovation of the Spotify Camp Nou have prompted urgency within the Barça board.

The primary concern stems from UEFA regulations, which prohibit clubs participating in European competitions from changing their home ground mid-tournament.

With the Champions League round of 16 set to begin on 4 March, Barcelona must finalise their plans well in advance to avoid any conflicts with UEFA.

Complicating matters further is the fact that the agreement between the club and the Barcelona City Council for the use of the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium is set to expire on 31 March.

There is tranquillity

Despite these challenges, the club remains calm and confident.

Unlike previous rumours, there is no consideration of alternative stadiums outside Barcelona, as the board trusts their strong relationship with the City Council will pave the way for an extended agreement if required.

Should the renovations at the Spotify Camp Nou not be completed in time, Barça are prepared to negotiate an extension of their stay at Montjuic.

However, one potential point of conflict revolves around events scheduled at Montjuïc during the critical period of late March.

What will Barcelona do?

The Barcelona company of Serveis Municipals (BSM), which oversees the stadium, has other proposals on the table, including confirmed events like a Guns N’ Roses concert on 9 June.

However, this concert falls after the football season, eliminating any direct impact on Barça’s plans. Still, the club may need to resolve scheduling issues for Champions League and La Liga matches in March.

Barça remain optimistic about reaching a mutually beneficial agreement with the City Council. There is even a possibility of the club compensating the council for any revenue losses from postponed events.
