Wojciech Szczesny did not rest during the recent international break as he burned the midnight lamp to ensure that he could return to complete match fitness at the earliest.

With Barcelona’s game against Sevilla just around the corner after the restart of club football, the Polish goalkeeper is now ready to make his debut and could even play against Los Nervionenses.

In fact, he made it clear in a recent interview that he feels match fit and that he is prepared for his anticipated debut in the garnet and blue colours.

“Yes, I’ve prepared these two weeks to be ready. Whether I play or not is the coach’s decision, which I must respect. But I train to play the match, and mentally, I’m already prepared,” he said earlier today.

Szczesny speaks to the media

Speaking to the media earlier today, the new signing was asked to make his pick in the eternal debate – Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo.

Even though he played with Ronaldo at Juventus, the 34-year-old Polish custodian picked the former Barcelona captain as his number one.

“Ronaldo and Messi are very different, they are both great players and for me, they are the best players in history,” he said, before adding, “For the beauty of football that Messi has shown in the last 20 years, for me he has to be number one.”

Szczesny was also asked about how his dream of attending El Clasico was now fulfilled in an unimaginable manner for he could even start for Barcelona next weekend in the epic duel.

“The nice thing is that I don’t have to pay for the ticket anymore so I’m very happy,” he joked.

While Inaki Pena has done a decent job in terms of racking up clean sheets in his limited starts, the youngster has looked nervy between the sticks. One would thus assume that it is only a matter of time before the new signing establishes himself under Flick.
