Barcelona youth team midfielder Pau Prim has said an emotional goodbye to FC Barcelona after 12 years at the club.
The 19-year-old, who spent most of last season in the stands because he refused to renew his contract, is now set to join Al-Sadd in Qatar as his deal with Barça comes to an end.
Prim’s departure once again shows how Barcelona are struggling to manage their young talents, letting important prospects slip away at a time when the team is already facing many challenges.
Prim announced his exit through his social media, posting a heartfelt photo of himself with the word “Gracies” written over the Barça crest, along with a touching letter.
He wrote, “Today is a different day, a day when the most special stage of my life so far ends.”
He admitted the goodbye was full of emotions that words couldn’t describe, but accepted that “everything has a cycle” and it was time to move on.
In his letter, Prim remembered joining Barça’s school at just 7 years old and now leaving 12 years later, “very satisfied with everything I have done and having fulfilled the dream I had since I was a child.”
He spoke with pride about wearing the Barcelona shirt, saying he always felt honoured to defend the club’s badge.
Prim was careful not to criticise the club directly, writing, “Thank you to the club for giving me the opportunity to grow in a unique environment.” He also expressed gratitude to his teammates and family for their support.
He ended his message saying, “Those who know me know that I have not stopped defending this shield until the last day.
“The Barça feeling is unique, and wherever I go, I will carry it inside me. I will be a culer all my life, wherever I am.”
Despite his class and loyalty, the club’s choice to freeze him out sparked controversy, especially as Barça lost a key player in a season that ended with their team being relegated.
However, with all said and done, the 19-year-old seems ready to put everything in the past and start a new life elsewhere.
