There were a lot of doubts in the minds of some FC Barcelona fans when the Blaugrana club decided to bet on Hansi Flick to take charge of the team from Xavi Hernandez.
However, in only a few months, the German tactician has been able to eliminate all doubts, as he has made the fans fall in love with how the Catalan team is performing. Barcelona are clearly one of the most exciting teams in Europe and Spain this season and are among the favorites for all the big titles.
As a result, the Blaugranes want to extend the German coach’s contract, which currently goes till 2026. Although Flick himself has been rather cautious when talking about his renewal, SPORT reports the Catalan club wants to send him a message of total confidence, and Joan Laporta has set his objective to renew him till 2028 as soon as possible.
In fact, the Blaugranes have already taken the first steps to prepare the ground for this renewal. However, there is one factor that can influence Flick’s renewal, i.e., the Barcelona presidential elections which are set to take place in 2026.
Laporta does not want to take any decisions that will go beyond the elections, and thus, the German coach’s new agreement will include a clause that will make his continuity dependent on the next elected president.
Despite this uncertainty that arises because of the elections, Laporta still wants to announce Flick’s renewal as soon as possible. But another factor that can come to play a part in this regard is the Blaugrana club’s FFP situation.
How this aspect develops in the coming months can determine when Barcelona can renew Flick’s contract, but after making several renewals in the last two months, the Blaugranes have some other pending files, including those of Robert Lewandowski and Inigo Martinez.
