FC Barcelona have been making progress this summer in terms of building an even stronger squad. From reinforcing the squad with new signings and renewals, the club knows what it has to do. However, there are certain negotiations that Barcelona has in mind as well.

In terms of signings, the latest addition to the team was English forward Marcus Rashford. He arrives on a loan deal from Manchester United, and there is a lot of excitement to see how he ends up performing for La Blaugrana.

As for renewals, the club continues to work on various cases. The most immediate renewal will likely be that of French defender Jules Kounde, who already reportedly seems to have reached an agreement on the terms for his new extension.

However, beyond just player-related operations, the club is also looking to renegotiate the terms of a sponsorship deal of theirs it seems. As per Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona plans to negotiate with Spotify to improve the terms of their current agreement.

As a kit sponsor, Spotify’s logo is placed in the centre of the current Barcelona jersey. Their initial agreement came in 2022, and the music-based company has been a major kit sponsor since then and the current contract ends in 2026.

The current deal involves a payment of €65 million per season from Spotify, that also includes bonuses that can raise the total to around €70 million. Beyond that, Spotify also pays €5 million per season for the naming rights of the Spotify Camp Nou. However, that figure will rise to €20 million from 2026 to 2034 once the stadium’s construction is complete.

Moreover, if Spotify decides to extend the sponsorship until 2030 as per their unilateral right, the annual fee will increase by an additional €10 million. Beyond 2030, they might even have to option to extend the deal from 2030 to 2034 by adding in an additional €10 million to the payment.

However, Barcelona do not seem to think that the current payment reflects the marketability of the shirt and its global relevance right now. This is no longer the Barcelona of 2022 and things have definitely changed for the club and in terms of their influence on the market.

In fact, Barcelona reportedly believes that their shirt sponsorship is already worth more than the potential €80 million per season payment that Spotify would pay by 2034. As per MD, the Catalan club’s current estimates point towards €120 million being a fair evaluation of the sponsorship that should be there.

Thanks to the rise to stardom of players like Lamine Yamal, who has already seen his new shirt reach astounding sale numbers, the Barcelona brand continues to grow. Thus, the club would like to renegotiate the deal and reach a more fair conclusion when it comes to the terms of the agreement.

However, MD reports that Barcelona is not locked with only Spotify as the option to consider. Even if their current sponsor is unwilling to renegotiate those terms, other offers and proposals will be assessed and the club remains open to new approaches.
