FC Barcelona have been one of the best clubs in Europe this season but Hansi Flick’s men were unable to reach the Champions League final. It was the best opportunity they had in years but unfortunately missed out on the berth.
The Catalan club have most of their team sorted, but could do with reinforcement in the goalkeeping position. Wojciech Szczesny has been good this season but his contract expires and he doesn’t seem to be signing a new deal.
Inaki Pena almost looks certain to leave, and going into the new season with Marc-Andre Ter Stegen as the first choice may not be the plan. In recent days, the club has been linked with players like Joan Garcia and Bart Verbruggen.

One other player that Barcelona are interested in for the goalkeeping position is Lucas Chevalier. As per Fichajes, the Catalan club want to sign the Ligue 1 player to reinforce their squad but he is not the only name on the list.
Lille have inserted a €40m release clause in his contract and are not willing to give much room for negotiation. At best, they would consider a deal of around €35m and this is the price Barcelona need to be willing to pay.
Chevalier is still very young and has a lot of things that makes him a very good fit for Barcelona. However, he is inexperienced in the conventional sense and Hansi Flick needs to analyze if he will make the step up to this level.

While the fee that the Ligue 1 club are asking for is not gigantic, it is still a significant financial outlay that Barcelona will be making based on potential. That said, any goalkeeper that they want to sign is more or less going to cost the same.
Much of Barcelona’s decision-making will hinge on how they resolve the futures of their current goalkeepers. As exits loom, the door could open for a signing like Lucas Chevalier. While the 23-year-old remains a developing talent, a calculated investment now could secure a long-term solution between the posts, if Barca are ready to take the leap.
