As reported just a while back, FC Barcelona consider their squad for the 2025/26 pretty much finalised, with no new incomings expected.

As far as departures are concerned, there is still a possibility that one or two players might move on before the transfer window slams shut.

Hector Fort and Inaki Pena are among the Barcelona players expected to leave this summer, but their futures remain unresolved.

Now, Mundo Deportivo reports that a crucial meeting is scheduled for Wednesday in Barcelona, where both Fort and Pena will sit down with their agents to evaluate individual plans and determine the best path forward.

Fort’s situation complicated by U20 World Cup

As previously reported, Fort’s potential move is complicated by the upcoming FIFA U-20 World Cup, to be held in Chile from 27 September to 19 October.

The youngster is determined to participate in the World Cup. If he joins a Spanish club, they would be obligated to release him for the tournament. But if he transfers abroad, his participation would depend on the approval of his new club.

As such, one option being considered is for him to remain at Barcelona until after the World Cup and reassess his future once the tournament ends – a scenario that could boost his profile, given the expected presence of scouts in Chile.

Despite this, Barcelona’s preference is for Fort to leave this summer. He has multiple offers, including loans to smaller clubs where he could play regularly, and permanent transfers to more ambitious sides willing to invest in his development.

Pena’s future dependent on Joan Garcia registration

As for Pena, his situation is more straightforward than that of Fort. As of now, he is the only goalkeeper registered with La Liga in the first team. If the season began today, he would start.

However, that will change as soon as Joan Garcia and/or Wojciech Szczesny are officially registered – a move that will accelerate the academy graduate’s exit.

Barcelona acknowledge that last season was unfair to Pena and have promised to facilitate his departure. As such, the Blaugrana are open to letting him leave as a free agent while retaining a percentage of a future sale.
