The young midfielder himself looked quite emotional and received adoration from his teammates as well, as he replaced Pedri in the second half.

The young Barcelona midfielder was notably handed the captain’s armband by Pedri, ultimately capping off a brilliant return to the pitch.

Gavi: The second youngest Barcelona captain

At just 20 years and 76 days old, Gavi became one of the youngest players to ever captain Barcelona in the club’s storied past.

In fact, the Barcelona academy gem became the second-youngest player to captain the team in their entire history.

The title of the youngest player to captain Barcelona belongs to someone who is still actively participating in the club’s day-to-day management.

The player in question is Bojan Krkic, who was once considered the next big thing coming out of La Masia after Lionel Messi.

Back in 2010, Bojan, aged just 20 years and 56 days, was given the captain’s armband by Pep Guardiola, in a Round of 32 Copa Del Rey clash against Ceuta.

Although Bojan’s career fell off eventually, the Spaniard remains a part of the Barcelona board, currently serving as the “Football area co-ordinator”.

Bojan works closely with Barcelona loanees, monitoring how they are performing elsewhere. He is, in fact, a key member of everything related to loans at FC Barcelona.

Unlike Bojan, though, this won’t be the only time Gavi captains Barcelona. With the club keen on sealing his renewal, we can expect the young midfielder to lead the Catalan outfit in the years to come.
