With both the Euro 2024 and Copa America concluding last night, the international hiatus officially comes to a close. The focus naturally returns to club football, with pre-season looming and the transfer market heating up.

Barcelona, on that front, have already begun training with the internationals set to return later in the month. The club’s transfer market stance, however, still remains unclear.

The Catalans have widely been linked with a move for Nico Williams, with La Liga president Javier Tebas even confirming that the deal was possible.

A strong prerequisite before the club can make any signings, however, is the generation of revenue.

Passive income flowing

As revealed in a recent report from Mundo Deportivo, the Blaugrana are well-placed to receive a payout for a player who left the club three years ago. Needless to say, this comes as significant news for Joan Laporta and his board.

Jean-Clair Todibo, who left Barcelona for OGC Nice in 2021, is reportedly nearing a move to Italy. Barcelona sold 80% of the player’s rights for €8.5 million, and thus still retain control over 20% of any fee from a future transfer.

The Spanish outlet further reports that Juventus, in particular, have Todibo as their best-placed option to reinforce their central defence.

Nice are awaiting an official move from the Bianconeri, and negotiations between the two clubs are expected to resume in the coming days.

It has previously been reported that Nice could demand €40 million for the Frenchman, in which case Barcelona would stand to pocket €8 million.

A bonafide starter

Todibo’s time at Barcelona remains something of an enigma, as the player was not given a chance to prove his worth despite impressing in his limited minutes. For what it’s worth, he is still performing at a high level in Europe.

The 24-year-old centre-back made 30 league appearances for Nice last season, providing two assists and contributing to an impressive 14 clean sheets.

His current contract in France runs until 2027, and it remains to be seen how much Nice can extract from his potential transfer.
