Barcelona are in ongoing discussions with La Liga regarding their financial fair play situation and the potential registrations of Nico Williams and Joan Garcia.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are confident that they are operating within the 1:1 rule – meaning every euro earned through transfers or player exits can be reinvested in new signings.

President Joan Laporta stated the same before the Senate, the assembly of the club’s one thousand longest-standing members earlier this week.

However, La Liga chief Javier Tebas offered a different view in his most recent public comments, saying that Barcelona “already know what they have to do” and stressing that “it is one thing to sign, another thing to register .”

Despite these seemingly conflicting statements, the reality is that Barcelona and La Liga are maintaining fluid communication.

What’s the story?

The discrepancy comes down to differing interpretations of the same issue.

Tebas is relying on the fact that the club’s auditor, Crowe, did not validate in March the €100 million revenue from the sale of 475 VIP seats, which were marketed in January for a 30-year period.

According to the auditor, in La Liga’s interim financial reporting, this revenue should not be counted in the current season because the physical asset, i.e., the seats, did not yet exist at that time.

This allows La Liga to assert that Barcelona are not yet compliant with the 1:1 rule, placing the responsibility on the club and its own auditor.

However, Barcelona maintain that the seats are now installed, as confirmed by construction firm Limak, and will be ready for use as soon as the Camp Nou reopens. What is needed now is for the auditor to formally approve the deal and communicate its validity to La Liga.

Additionally, Tebas was under the impression that the seats could only be used once stadium renovations are fully completed, whereas Barcelona plan to reopen the venue to the public in September.

Therefore, the Catalans are confident that once La Liga receives the relevant documentation from the auditors confirming the legitimacy of the VIP seat operation, the issue will be resolved.

In the meantime, Barcelona have generated additional income through players such as Jean-Clair Todibo, Alex Valle, Ilaix Moriba, Alex Collado, Ludovit Reis, and Nico Gonzalez.

Further departures may increase this revenue stream, giving the club even more financial room to operate.
