FC Barcelona continue to work towards reopening the Spotify Camp Nou in time for their La Liga match against Valencia on the weekend of 13-14 September.

To that end, Mundo Deportivo reports that the club’s executives met on Monday with representatives from the Barcelona City Council as they press ahead with “Plan A”, which would allow them to return home and welcome around 27,000 supporters.

As reported earlier today, Barcelona have already obtained the final works certificate (CFO) for the main stand (Tribuna) and the South Goal (Gol Sur), after approval was signed off by surveyors, the project managers and construction company Limak.

UEFA deadline looms

Members of the Council are scheduled to visit the stadium on Tuesday to inspect the works and verify compliance with requirements for the stadium’s first occupancy licence, which is essential before fans can be admitted.

On Thursday, 28 August, the draw for the UEFA Champions League’s league phase takes place, and Barcelona must confirm to UEFA which stadium they will use until mid-February, when the knockout playoff round begins.

UEFA regulations require the lateral stand to be open for television purposes, yet in this first phase of the reopening of Spotify Camp Nou, only the main stand and the South Goal would be available.

Option of two stadiums

If the permits are not secured in time, Barcelona are also considering splitting venues: hosting La Liga fixtures at the Spotify Camp Nou and playing Champions League matches at the Estadi Lluis Companys in Montjuic.

Barcelona have already reached an agreement to play at Montjuic until February, with no further concerts planned there until May.

Municipal sources acknowledge the possibility of a temporary return to Estadi Olimpic but insist this remains “Plan B”.

Barcelona continue to push Plan A, with the coming days set to be decisive in determining whether a return to the Spotify Camp Nou is achievable.
