Disciplinary issues involving FC Barcelona coaches and La Liga’s officials are not something entirely new. As a matter of fact, former club coach Xavi Hernandez was rather a regular when it came to getting booked by the Spanish league’s referees. Still, some incidents involving Barcelona feel rather unjustified compared to others.
Perhaps the best example of this came in the last La Liga match that La Blaugrana played against Real Betis. During the game, Hansi Flick was sent off by the match official for a reason that he seemed to deem as being out of order, and bad enough for the coach to receive a direct red card.
Furthermore, as a result of this expulsion, Hansi Flick is now set to miss the next two La Liga games against Leganes and Atletico Madrid. According to SPORT, this particular decision and expulsion has led to the German coach feeling rather frustrated and shocked at the kind of suspension that he has been handed.
Initially, the coach seemed to deem it as something that happened in the heat of the moment. However, as time has passed and it has come to his knowledge that the red card will result in a two-match suspension for him, the Barcelona manager is quite shocked and surprised by the kind of punishment that he has been given.
The reason behind this shock is the simple fact that Flick continues to plead his innocence. Having been a professional coach for so long across his lengthy managerial career, this is arguably the first time that Flick is facing such an ordeal despite being someone who is always attentive and careful about respecting the laws and officials of the game.
Moreover, unlike his predecessor, Flick is a composed individual when it comes to expressing his emotions. Even in more extreme cases, the German tactician is always seen as a more calm and collected individual, despite definitely having his moments of expressing strong emotions as well.
While Barcelona did move quickly to appeal the decision, which was something that the first team’s head coach reportedly appreciated, it was ultimately in vain. The coach is now certain to miss the upcoming games, and the one against Atletico Madrid could especially be a painful one.
Ultimately, there is nothing that the club nor the coach can do about this ruling. As a result of this fact, Flick will reportedly comply with it as per the law and is willing to abide by it. However, understandably so, he remains firm in his belief that the punishment for his protest is still quite excessive.
