Barcelona officially announced the date of their return to the Spotify Camp Nou last month, confirming that the Joan Gamper Trophy would take place at the historic venue as the first game after its renovation on August 10.

The return home was much due, especially given how deadlines were repeatedly missed regarding its completion. After all, the Blaugrana were supposed to return to the stadium midway through last season but ended up completing it at Montjuic.

In recent days, however, doubts on whether the club can indeed meet the deadline officially announced have grown, with several questions raised on whether the Joan Gamper Trophy can indeed be held at the Spotify Camp Nou.

No light at the end of the tunnel

As relayed by FCBRAC1, the City Council of Barcelona thinks it is very unlikely that the Joan Gamper clash will take place at the Spotify Camp Nou on August 10th.

In fact, they were very surprised by the club’s confidence in making an official declaration of the same even before obtaining all the required permits.

As relayed earlier this week, Barcelona need to obtain two permits before reopening the stadium for the public – the activity license and the initial occupancy license.

The former will not be a challenge to obtain, but the City Council refuse to sanction the latter unless work on the first and second levels of the stadium is complete.

As it stands, it is highly unlikely that the club can get them ready in time for the event on August 10th.

At this point, all hope is not lost, and there is a chance that Barcelona can complete the pending work and secure the permit in time.

With every passing day, however, the probability goes lower and the club move closer to a massive black spot on their image.
