Barcelona captain will earn €9 million net per year after renewing his contract | OneFootball

As relayed earlier today, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is beginning to get frustrated with the board’s delay in registering players for the likes of Wojciech Szczesny, Gerard Martin and Roony Bardghji all remain unregistered even ahead of the team’s second game of the season.

The only solution for the administration is to clear up space on the FFP front by boosting player sales or contract renewals on more favourable terms.

While Oriol Romeu, Inaki Pena and possibly even Marc Casado are in the exit plans, the renewal of Frenkie de Jong remains one of the biggest operations they hope to conclude soon. After all, the captain taking a pay cut would be significant for the club as he is the team’s highest earner.

New terms close to being agreed

The roadblock in Barcelona’s pursuit of closing De Jong’s renewal so far was the player’s complicated relationship with his agent, Ali Dursun.

As of earlier this week, however, he cut off ties and changed his representative, with the new agent even meeting Deco on Wednesday to take negotiations over a renewal forward.

Now, El Chiringuito bring to light that details of the captain’s new contract are being finalised and he will earn around €9 million net per year as per the new terms of his contract.

It remains unclear how much exactly Barcelona will save with the player’s new contract and whether it will be enough to directly aid in registering a new player.

What is for certain, however, is that there will be a relief in some capacity, for it is rumoured that he has agreed to defer a part of his wages, thus aiding in spreading them out and lightening the financial burden on the club.

The new deal will be until 2028 with the option for extending by another year.

The Dutchman has had a rocky career at Barcelona so far, earning and losing a regular spot in the team regularly. The past year, however, has seen him develop into a profile that Hansi Flick seriously values and has thus placed him as a vital pillar.

This season, he is thus seen as a regular part of the starting lineup in the defensive midfield alongside Pedri and is only expected to grow in prominence despite the serious competition.
