Ronald Araujo recently signed a contract extension with Barcelona, committing his future to the club until 2031 and last night, the Uruguayan defender celebrated scoring a goal in the 2-2 draw against Atalanta.
While his goal was important, it was not enough to secure Barcelona’s top spot in the Champions League group stage.
However, Araujo’s celebration stood out as he shouted “I’m staying here,” making his feelings clear. Following the match, he spoke about his happiness and commitment to the club during an interview with Movistar.

Araujo expressed his joy at scoring the goal, especially after his contract renewal. He reflected on the hard work he’s put in over the years, saying that he’s always given everything for the team and is grateful that people recognise his efforts on the pitch.
His words carried weight, as even though he recently extended his contract, there had been speculation about the possibility of a summer transfer.
“I’m very happy with the goal after the renewal, you can see the work, what I give on the pitch and I see that people value it.
“God willing, I’ll be here for many years, if it depends on me, for sure,” he said as quoted by SPORT.
Araujo also addressed the rumours surrounding his future, stating that people don’t fully understand the sacrifices he’s made to stay at Barcelona.

He emphasised that his commitment to the club is unwavering, highlighting that he’s been playing through injuries and even underwent surgery to continue performing.
“They don’t know what I did to be here. I don’t know what has come out but there is Ronald for a while in Barcelona. Not everything that is said is true.”
Since joining Barcelona in 2018, Araujo has always given his best, and that dedication will not change. Now, after his contract renewal, he feels more appreciated and valued at the club than ever before.
“I always gave my life for this club, in every way, since I arrived in 2018. I’ve played injured, and operated. I gave my life and I will always continue to give it. I’m very happy here in Barcelona, we did a great job and now I feel valued.”
He made it clear that his priority is to stay at Barcelona for the long term, and if it’s up to him, he will remain at the club for many more years.
