Marc-Andre ter Stegen has been in the spotlight in Catalonia for most of the ongoing summer transfer window for reasons beyond one’s imagination.
Indeed, the German goalkeeper was not linked with any surprise exit this summer but took to the headlines after an unexpected post on his social media that planted an overly optimistic image of his return period from injury.
Further, he refused to sign the medical papers that would allow the club to utilise his salary space for registrations and thus lost the place as the team’s captain.
Eventually, however, Barcelona and the player reconciled, the papers and signed, and the captaincy was reinstated.
Having undergone surgery, the Barcelona captain is out of action for between four to five months and is unlikely to play again in 2025. Yet, he continues to lead the team from the sidelines, as is evident from his social media.
Earlier today, Ter Stegen took to his official Instagram to share an update on the team’s upcoming La Liga curtain-raiser vs Mallorca and accompanied it with a message of support for the dressing room.

“Let’s go team,” the story read, sending a message from the captain to the troops.
The first-team captain, as it stands, is unlikely to play for Barcelona again this season, especially with Hansi Flick making it clear that Joan Garcia and Wojciech Szczesny will be his two trusted troops in the department.
Ter Stegen, thus, will look to work hard and return to the field before the winter transfer window so as to push for a departure from the club in some capacity.
After all, the FIFA World Cup is just around the corner, and the player will look to be in good form.
Barcelona, for their part, could support him if he opts to leave the club, either with a low-cost loan venture or a letter of freedom.
