With the arrival of Spanish goalkeeper Joan Garcia, it seems clear enough that Barcelona want him to start for the club next season. While this might be great news for Hansi Flick and the squad, considering the quality he brings, it most certainly is not good news for Ter Stegen.

In fact, beyond just losing his starting position in the team, the German goalkeeper could even lose another thing. According to Mundo Deportivo, Garcia’s arrival could even force a change of jersey numbers at the club when it comes to goalkeepers.

With Inaki Pena set to leave the club, his number ‘13’ would be left vacant. Then, as per MD, that number could go to either Wojciech Szczesny or Marc-Andre Ter Stegen. As for Garcia, his arrival could force Barcelona to give him the number ‘1’ jersey currently worn by the German goalkeeper.

Another Barcelona number will change hands as well

This would undeniably be a big move from the club’s side, and an even bigger statement from them. Beyond just stripping Ter Stegen of his place in the team, they would also be taking away arguably one of his most prized possessions at the club.

Ultimately, it remains up to Barcelona to decide whether this is all worth the hassle or trouble. However, one number in the squad that is certainly going to another player is the iconic number ‘10’, and it is Lamine Yamal who will get the responsibility of carrying that on his back.
