Barcelona have taken another important step towards achieving the much-desired 1:1 financial fair play ratio, bringing them closer to registering their pending signings ahead of the new La Liga season.

According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, the board of directors, led by Joan Laporta, unanimously approved a €7 million guarantee to La Liga during an extraordinary meeting held on Wednesday.

This decision is aimed at covering the budget imbalance created by the club’s different sporting sections, should the need arise.

What was discussed?

The meeting, which lasted just over an hour, focused almost entirely on this guarantee. The board concluded that advancing the amount now is the safest route to avoid any last-minute obstacles with La Liga’s financial control body.

By securing this sum, Barcelona are ensuring they are not left short when it comes to meeting the league’s strict 1:1 spending rule.

Club sources revealed that the €7 million figure is closely tied to the VIP seating project at the stadium.

If La Liga approves this option after reviewing the audit report, the club would have roughly the same amount left to balance the budget, mitigating the financial strain caused by the various sections of the organisation.

Rather than wait for the final confirmation, the board decided to be proactive, securing the guarantee now.

Important step for Barcelona

This strategic move is not only about financial housekeeping; it directly impacts the squad planning for the season.

Barcelona still have five players yet to be registered with La Liga, namely, Joan Garcia, star forward Marcus Rashford, experienced goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, young defender Gerard Martín, and talented winger Roony Bardghji.

By bringing themselves within touching distance of the 1:1 ratio, Barcelona are signalling their intent to start the season without off-field distractions.
