Barcelona are now in pole position to sign Juventus outcast Federico Chiesa, as Inter Milan fall behind in the race to sign the winger.

The Italy international is facing a race against time to find himself a new club.

The 26-year-old risks spending a campaign on the sidelines since he’s not part of Thiago Motta’s plans in Turin.

News reports have been linking Chiesa with several possible destinations, including Inter.

This would be a sensational move considering the intense rivalry between the Nerazzurri and Juventus.

Many sources believe Inter would try to poach the player on a free transfer next summer. Others suggest a swoop at the end of the month, pouncing on the Old Lady’s desperation with a low-ball offer.

However, Barcelona have recently emerged as a plausible track for the Euro 2020 winner.

According to Il Corriere della Sera via FcInter1908, the Catalan giants turned their attention to the Juventus exile after failing to sign Nico Williams and Rafael Leao.

The newspaper describes the operation as affordable. Barcelona would have to splash 12 million euros on transfer fees, while the player is expecting a salary of 6 million.

However, the Blaugrana must adhere to La Liga’s Financial Fair Play rules. Therefore, they will be looking to make room for Chiesa on the wage bill by offloading some of the deadwood.

The main name on the exit list is young defender Mikayil Faye who was linked with Inter in previous weeks.

The source believes the Italian winger might have to lower his wage demands to 4,5 or 5 million euros as the Spanish club must not exceed their salary cap.

Chiesa joined Juventus in the summer of 2020 following a controversial transfer from Fiorentina. His contract with the Bianconeri will expire next summer.
