Although several of their players enjoyed international glory this summer, the two international tournaments, UEFA EURO 2024 and 2024 Copa America, have also exacted a high cost from FC Barcelona.

Players like Pedri, Fermin Lopez, Ferran Torres, and Lamine Yamal got their hands on the UEFA EURO 2024 as Spain won the final against England last night, while the Barcelona legend, Lionel Messi won the 2024 Copa America with Argentina’s 1-0 win over Colombia.

However, the Barcelona defender, Ronald Araujo, also injured himself in this latter tournament and this injury can turn out to be a real headache for the Catalans. This seems to be the case as SPORT reports that the Uruguayan can be forced to undergo surgery to recover from this issue, although he is yet to make a final decision on this matter.

Araujo will assess the costs and benefits of the different courses of recovery available to him, but if he prefers surgery, he will have to spend the four ensuing months in the infirmary.

The defender suffered a puncture in his left thigh in the match against Brazil, and first examinations claimed he would need around six to eight weeks to recover from this issue.

However, the exact place of the injury was not identified in these first examinations, and the latter tests have only shown that the matter is graver than it was previously assessed.

Araujo will return to Barcelona today on Monday, and further tests in Spain will clear up any doubts on how to approach his recovery. If it is feared that a conservative treatment would not fully heal the injury, surgery will be preferred to avoid any relapses in the future.
