After enjoying a day off, Barcelona players reconvened to train today as preparations kickstarted for Saturday’s La Liga clash against Rayo Vallecano.

Following their 1-0 win vs. Rayo Vallecano on Monday night, which sent them to the top spot in La Liga, Hansi Flick decided to give the players off on Wednesday.

Now, with the game against Las Palmas on the horizon, the Catalans resumed training today at the Ciutat Esportiva aiming to open up a lead at the top with a win.

Andreas Christensen back in group training

As preparations got underway, Barcelona welcomed back defender Andreas Christensen to group training today, Mundo Deportivo reports.

The 28-year-old Dane has been out of action since late January after suffering a soleus muscle injury in training just before the game against Atalanta.

Prior to that, the centre-back had played only one game this season – the opener vs. Valencia – before being sidelined with an Achilles tendon issue that required him to undergo surgery.

Now, though, Christensen returned to group training today, providing Barcelona with a boost as his return to the squad is now getting closer.

However, reports suggest that it is unlikely that the former Chelsea defender will be available to face Las Palmas this weekend, considering that he will have only two full training sessions under his belt by then.

Instead, the game against Atletico Madrid later this month – the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final – could be when Christensen makes his comeback.

For now, Barcelona will celebrate the Danish international’s return to group training and will hope that he is able to leave his injury woes behind for good.
