‘Barça is a team with more talent’… Gerard Piqué compares Barcelona with Real Madrid | OneFootball

FC Barcelona have made a leap in their performances since the arrival of Hansi Flick, and the Catalans are clearly one of the very best and the most entertaining teams in Europe this season.

Thus, it is quite natural to see some of the most notable names associated with the sport of football speak highly of the Blaugranes.

The latest to praise the Catalan side was none other than one of their former defenders, Gerard Pique. As SPORT has reported, the legendary Blaugrana center-back appeared in an interview with MARCA, and one of the subjects he talked about was the good level of performance being shown by La Masia talent at Barcelona:

“I really like it. I think people are very invested, and the fact that so many young players have come up from La Masia makes the fans feel connected. You can see that they are hungry, full of talent, and eager to win titles.”

The former defender also compared Barcelona with Real Madrid, and highlighted the two aspects in which these teams excel:

“Barça is a team with more talent. What they might be lacking is a bit of experience and consistency in winning games every three days. They started very, very well, but we’ve hit a small rough patch.”

“Madrid, on the other hand, is a more established team. Every time they face Barça, they struggle because, as I said, Barça is incredibly talented, and when they have a great game, wow, it’s spectacular. But Madrid has more consistency and regularity. They have more mature players who know how to compete well.”

Despite his satisfaction with how La Masia youngsters were performing with the first team, Pique was clear that even the brightest of today’s talents would struggle to make their way into the legendary Barcelona team of his time:

“Our Barça was truly Barça. I would say it was one of the best teams in history. Few of the current players would make it into that team. Our Barça had great players. Of course, it’s a shame not to include someone like Lamine, Cubarsí, or Raphinha, who is at a great level right now, but in that Barça, those positions were taken by Messi, Puyol, or whoever—Villa, Henry, or Eto’o.”

“We’re talking about top-tier players. I think the current ones have to earn their place in that team. They definitely have the talent and the desire, but they still need to win big titles.”

As things stand, it is hard to argue with Pique in this regard. But, one can hope that the likes of Yamal, Cubarsi, and Raphinha will continue to play at the level they are showing this season, and will write their own chapters in the Blaugrana club’s history.
