It’s safe to say there’s a lot riding on Sunday’s Old Firm Cup Final, as Celtic and Rangers face off to clinch the league cup trophy, and we’re more than a bit surprised that former Rangers (and Celtic) striker Kenny Miller has Rangers defeated before a ball is kicked.
The ex-Ibrox and Easter Road striker, quite a goal-getter in his day, is known for a few bampot comments now and then, but his views on Rangers v Celtic are maybe a touch on the ‘disappointing’ side.
He said:
“It will be a tight affair, they always are. Celtic have been better in terms of their performances in recent Old Firm games, but the results have been really, really tight and I can’t see this being any different. It could be won by the odd goal. I’d love to be confident and say a Rangers win, but this Celtic team are favourites for a reason and that’s not only due to the record the manager’s got, but they’ve also got more big game players and they’ve been proven in the fixture.”
Rather than saying ‘Celtic will win’ Miller’s comments should have been a lot more constructive about how Rangers can overcome Celtic’s form.
Very, very defeatist and not the kind of message Rangers fans are looking for right now.
He went on:
“There’s a lot of new players in this Rangers team, but could one of them step up and be the hero and score a cup final goal and be remembered forever? For either side, if you can score the winning goal, you’re going to be remembered forever, so what a chance this is for these Rangers players to step up to the plate and bring the trophy home.”
A wee bit better here, but boy does he sound inferior overall – acting like a bit of a bootlicker rather than someone who believes Rangers can win in some way.
It’s one thing for fansites like Ibrox Noise to analyse these matches and admit it will be tougher without John Souttar, quite another for a former Rangers player to have us defeated before a ball is kicked.
Top message there Kenny!
